GUIDE TO SLIDDERY WATER

NAME OF RIVER: Sliddery Water(!)

WHERE IS IT?: Isle of Arran, south west corner of the island from the Ross road. Isle of Arran is on OS sheet 69.

PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: Sliddery put in is 946246...Old mill by road bridge on Ross road. Take out at 938227 at coastal road bridge.

APPROX LENGTH: 2 km.

TIME NEEDED: 1 hour.

ACCESS HASSLES: Good, but try not to upset anyone.

WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: Unknown.

GRADING: Grade 3 (4).

MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: Watch out for fallen trees, 4 falls in increasing difficulty.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A spate river which is short but sweet. Good water after put in builds up to a mini gorge, first fall. Shortly after is a foot bridge followed by the second fall. Soon after is Triple fall (4), a steep ramp and stopper. If you miss the breakout, left is fun, right is safer. Next, Oak Tree fall (4), the boil can be huge. If you run it blind keep left.

Update from Max (Oct' 99)...' I was on Arran recently and had a quick look at the rivers. The Sliddery looks good, I'd forgotten how many play spots it has. The bridge above fall two has gone but the pillars still remain.'

OTHER NOTES: Ferry from Ardrossan to get there! While you're on the Isle of Arran, also go look at North Sannox Water and Machrie Water.
