GUIDE TO THE RIVER EDEN
(Sands Rapid - low flow play spot!)
NAME OF RIVER: Eden.
WHERE IS IT?: Near to Carlisle Castle, or Sands leisure centre (NY4024656710).
PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: Park in the Sands Leisure Centre car-park (NY4015656545). Head to the river and walk ~100m upstream to the rapid.
APPROX LENGTH: It's a playspot.
TIME NEEDED: An hour or two.
ACCESS HASSLES: none known.
WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: Great summertime playspot. Works well in all but higher flows were it will be drowned out. When the sun is shining and your itching to paddle this will probably be the place to go..

GRADING: Grade 2/3 - Ideal for beginners and experienced - great training venue for white-water safety skills. Could be made into a short whitewater journey if combined with Rickerby rapids just upstream.
MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: A7 road bridge downstream - just be aware 300m away ish.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: An easily accessible spot for practising and introducing beginners to moving water without the need for a shuttle. It's an old weir, with a friendly shoot shallow angle wide wave. When the sun is shining and your itching to paddle this will probably be the place to go..
