Update as of 18 Nov 2012: there was no sign of any tree hazard anywhere on this rapid. The gauge at Erwood was showing 2ft which made The Rocks rapid a good level. Ran with a bunch of early improver kayaks and had 70% swim rate, most of which were caused by the submerged rock left of centre of the first 'V'. At this level, the rock cannot be identified either from the bank or even as approaching: the first I knew was a very hard thump on my left buttock requiring a significant right brace to recover. To avoid, take a line as far right as possible down the 'V'. Otherwise, a brill rapid to push 2*/3* paddlers (recommend a rescue boat at the bottom and perhaps one in the big recirc eddy river-right just above bottom).
