We did this section yesterday, after not doing it for 4 years. River level on the Newtown guage was 0.45. It was very scrapy in places.
At this level, I would hesitate at putting it anything above Grade 1.
There were 2 possible tiny waves where a short kayak may have got a little bit of surfing in, but nothing else.
In Newtown, a new building is half finished now, this will be an outdoor activities centre with paddleboard and cycle hire, there are also 3 (maybe 4) slipways with steps down to the river, these are all on river right. I have read that there are 4 slipways built, but we didnt see the 4th.
We said this was the perfect river section for beginners to whitewater, but for experienced paddlers, it needs a lot more water.
