Re: DERWENT (Malton to Stamford Bridge)
I'm let to believe that there's an access issue with one of the land owners next to Howsham Weir. See this topic: http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/foru ... =3&t=46122
I believe the Local River Adviser (or whatever the BCU title is now) is currently in talks with this land owner.

Done any NE/NW rivers not on the site? PM me!
Re: DERWENT (Malton to Stamford Bridge)
The access issues are resolved and we again have full access.
Landowner has confirmed this in a letter to one of the local canoe clubs.

Re: DERWENT (Malton to Stamford Bridge)
Received today. Not entirely sure what the first line is about, as it's not inline with Canoe England's current interpretation of trespass laws. Have people actually been walking across private land, or just accessing the water from public land and getting shouted at? I'm going to invite Paul to post further info.Paul Lister wrote:I would like to point out the Access situtaion is by far not easy I would like to point out that you may be going to court
It is Illegal to even throw a STICK in to the river for your dog since 1991 high court judgement
the Country Landowners association
Fisherman Community
and also various land Owners
I wish people would do there home work on this river
I do not enjoy the conservations with the land owners late at night with illegal entrants
and the odd group is not helping the situation I have tried for many years to get open access for non Powered craft and then
some one goes along and puts stuff on the website and kills all the work I try to preserve.
also the Howsham Weir is a hot topic a new land owner, We spent 6 months getting the salmon weekend to go ahead,
thanks Paul Lister

Anyone got current info on this stretch or anything about the Malton to Stamford Bridge section. I'm hoping to get a trip sorted soon.

Went for a look at the put in today. At the moment teh car park is a building site and signs declaring the river bank to be "Private Land," have been erected on the fence - sigh....
