Paddled on 16th of December 2006 had access problems near Iron bridge on the A65, New housing complex River left above the Iron bridge has a tempting pathway and steps leading to the River bank. Local house owner informed us that this was private property and a sign was to be erected shortly. Therefore recommend put in River left below the Iron bridge.

Paddled the Ingleton Greta yesterday, 25 Jan 09. There is a tree stuck on the extreme right of the drop in Greta woods, not obvious from the water till your on top of it. Take care.

Not only is there a tree still on the right side of the drop in Greta Woods there is a large freshly fallen tree on the left hand side blocking the route over the rocky shelf. May make the drop very hard in high water but routes in the middle are still ok in low to med levels.

Actually the best way to access, if you are not getting on by the viaduct and wier, is to park in the almost hidden area of hardstanding upstream of the iron bridge on river right. Little gateway off the A65 right next to the bridge leads into a lovely car park.

Was empty yesterday. Went to the Ribble which was low but fun, technical grade 3.

We have cut back the tree that was spoiling the line on the left hand side of the 1.5m drop in the woods.

Paddled this in lowish levels today.
Big tree fairly near the start of Greta woods with branches across about a third of the river on the right. Not a problem at these levels with most of the flow to the left, but could be awkward at higher levels.

Should hold up for a slightly less exciting but fun paddle tomorrow.

There is a tree covering almost the whole of the river just after ( 20 metres) the first bend which is shortly after the put on at the bridges at Ingleton, its a spot where there are normally a few swims so take care. Its easily portaged on the wide gravel bank on river right

Hi All

Do not know if anyone paddles this river much but there are 2 trees down the first is two thirds of the way down a little ways after the bridge in Burton in Lonsdale it is not passable
At low levels it’s an easy Eddie on the left but at high levels you may need to get out earlier

The second tree is near the end and you can get over it at most levels on a small kayak wide slot river left but care must be taken

The 2 trees mentioned by Robofish have been removed however there is a new tree hazard below Burton which is a definite portage. The tree is in a fast flowing section probably about 1km-1.5km below Burton bridge, when the river starts to speed up a bit after the fishing huts/benches on the side of the river. You can see it from a reasonable distance away and there are plenty of eddies for portaging from on river right but none of the are particularly huge so you'll need to be organised if you're a group leader with some beginners.

Hi folks, On 18-8-17 Wigan Canoe Group paddled the Greta from Ingleton Bridge down through Burton in Lonsdale to Greta Bridge. This is a quality paddle that is very hard to get at a good level.The section from Ingleton to just past Burton was scrapey in places, but the second half of the run was very enjoyable. The whole paddle was about grade 2/3. At higher levels some parts would wash out, and others would be
Grade 3.The trees mentioned in previous posts have all moved over to river right,
leaving an easy passage through;at least for the moment. Lots of small play waves.

Paddled the river 24-Mar-23 at a low level, about 0.5 mile after the get in at GR 683 725 the bank is badly eroded on river right.

At low level the flow drops over a gravel bed and then runs along the right hand bank, however a bush and barbed wire fence have fallen into the river partly blocking it. Take care, it's probably best to get out and portage round the obstruction especially if you have inexperienced paddlers in the group.

Otherwise a classic river at the "right" level
