River Erme - Harford Bridge to Ivybridge
There are a few trees down across the river so you all need to be a little bit carefull, but we ran this section yesterday and did not need to get out of our boats. In high water that might change.
Also I think in the near future there will be even more trees down as a lot of the earth around the root systems has been washed away ( very eveident just above the viaduct), lets hope not to many trees fall into this lovely section of white water.

This tree has now been pushed on to the river left bank, so at presant its not blocking the river.

10Am The level is very high at presant, the rain has just eased off.
Heading to the Dart for about 12.30 - 1300. Not sure of Dart level at presant but guess "on the Slab" and peaking about 11am ish.

Again a phone update from Mark - Erme is massive - more walking than paddling. Looking good for early Tues.

There is a small yet difficult tree in the slot.
Be careful

With 15-20mm of rain forecast overnight, I would say that the Erme will be in form tomorrow. Plus there is likely to be numerous paddlers on there, including myself with a Steep Creeking group.Torsten wrote:Anyone else paddling the Erme tomorrow?

Good effort on the dawn raid - by the time my friends got there late morning, it was too low to bother with.

The Erme is big and rising fast today. Lovley level at the moment. I think it will be in flood by 2pmish. Should be going tomorrow.

Re: RIVER ERME (Harford Bridge to Ivybridge)
My club and I are running the erme tomorrow if met check is right.
My first time! Slightly nervous, But yet not so happy that i will most probably have to portage the slot and gorge.
Anyway, is anyone else paddling tomorrow?

Would love to, trying to get some sort of a group together from Plymouth. Unfortionally most of the student paddlers have headed back home for the summer.Ollieswims! wrote:My club and I are running the erme tomorrow if met check is right.

Re: RIVER ERME (Harford Bridge to Ivybridge)
I completed my first run of the erme today, no capsizes! But my deck popped under pressure at the weir and the drop before the weir, not good.
There is a tree across the whole river in the gorge, 300-400 metres from the viaduct. still passable river right. It could do with moving.
Also there is a tree obstructing the real bony grade 2-3 section not far from the first exciting section. You can either go over this or around but again this could do with shifting!
Cheers,
Ollie.

Re: RIVER ERME (Harford Bridge to Ivybridge)
Was this tree in the pool just as you enter the gorge? or after the dogleg?
might pop out tomorrow to cut it up/pull it out thats all - still need to give the chainsaw a blast thats all

Re: RIVER ERME (Harford Bridge to Ivybridge)
Nope it was quite a way downstream of the viaduct.
Sorry if im being vague but it was my first time paddling the erme yesterday so i haven't got much of an idea of which features are which etc.
But if you walk up from the usual parking place for inspecting the gorge, it is very obvious. Big river wide tree, needs a chainsaw to get rid of it.
Also, if you have a bit of time. There are another few trees obstructing the river at various spots. After the first rapid, on the very bony and shallow part of the river, this tree can be avoided river left or hopped centre river, but it is an obstruction.
Again- I don't know the name of the feature, but it has the same concept as euthanasia falls but on a smaller scale, there is low hanging tree which does not cause much of an obstruction but does get in the way. If you really want to get the chainsaw running then there you go. Three trees!

erme-new weir?
There appears to be some kind of wier being built above the old one anybody know anything more? It looks like it could form a nasty feature when the river is in condition.

Re: erme-new weir?
I did not see one last sunday.
Which weir? The town falls weir or the two tier weir above the viaduct?

Re: erme-new weir?
Tom Budd, informed myself that work is being undertaken on the old weir, that forms a leat on river left, just below the little slot/slalom steps drop, some 200m above the viaduct. Any updated or images please, especially if the feature changes considerably.
