Sea Kayak touring cag/jacket recommendations 2020.

Post by yaknut »

Hello,
I'm looking to get my first jacket/cag with a twin waist and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions other than the two I've short listed. Currently they are the Palm Chinook and the Peak Adventure Double.

Whatever I get will be mating with my Peak Storm Pants. The obvious choice would be the Peak Adventure Double, which is also the preferred choice at the minute.

My budget is around £200. Latex wrists seals would be fine, but I really don't like any restriction around the neck, so latex there is out. I'd rarely be paddling in conditions that would justify a latex neck seal anyway.

The aim is to extend the paddling season, while still having something that could be used in warmer weather as much as possible.

My question really is whether there is something on the market that I've missed. For example, the Nookie Turbo looks like a nice bit of kit, but it seems more geared towards white water than sea touring. If there was something like it without the latex neck seal, I'd be considering it.

I'm aware of the Nookie Storm Jacket, but at £300, that puts it outside my budget

Have a look at the Reed Aquatherm stuff...https://www.chillcheater.com/dry-cags
very light and exceptionally tough. Can be washed in a washing machine. I always use mine in preference to the 'normal' paddling top that I have.

Rog.

Hi Yaknut

I would recommend the Reed chillcheater cags too. Also take a look at the typhoon link. Great tops.

Well within your budget. I've got an older version of this and have found it excellent for warmer weather paddling when it's too hot for a dry-suit
So much sea - so little time to see it.
