River avon - kelston to Weston lock stretch

Post by Lsewell » Sat Sep 21, 2019 9:39 pm

Hello

Does anyone have any experience or advice on canoeing the above section of the avon (east of bristol). We are fairly new to canoeing and it would be good to know the rough river speed (I appreciate it will vary) as I'd like to know if going upstream and then back would be possible for us or just better to go downstream.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Laura

I haven't paddled that part, just that above Bath, but as the river is a shared navigation with locks and weirs, in normal river conditions you should have very little problem paddling upstream. Give it a go.

The Kennet and Avon above Bath is a nice rural paddle too, with few locks.
