Approx 2 years old, usual scratches etc, very agile and playful kayak, good for rockhopping, day trips, surf, rivers, a great kayak.

Someone is going to get a really nice kayak at that price. I thought you loved it Simon... or did you love it so much, you had two of them?

Out of interest what are your dimensions? I'm trying to decide between the large and the small.
I'm 185cm tall 87kg
Thanks.

I tried the P&H Virgo and liked that more, it addressed some of the Stratos weak points, but only slightly!

About the same as you, would guess the large would be a little too roomy ?

Hi Simon. I can't see scratches on your photos. Is there much on the hull? Skeg working well? Any leakage around the bulkheads? Thanks, Steve

I would really like to know how you feel they compared. I'm getting close to buying either the stratos, the Hydra or the Virgo. I would appreciate any advice - I will be trying them myself, but as a relative novice, any heads up on things I might not recognise could only be good news.
many thanks,

Jim

The Stratos is a great, relatively cheap, agile and fun kayak, 2 sizes mean you will probably fit well in one of them, I have loved mine and will be sorry to see it go, downsides are hatch covers that aren’t great, the rear cover on stratos is a loose fit, the Stratos isn’t the easiest kayak to paddle in a straight line for long, and if you want to do longer trips without exploring the nooks and crannies you would be better off with something else, but its a great boat to surf and play in and good for easy rivers.
I tried the Hydra once and it did nothing for me at all, felt dull, heavy and slow, cockpit area is huge and is only available in one size, has same hatch covers as the Stratos, but with a better fit on the rear one.
The Virgo addressed all the things I don’t like about the Stratos, it goes straight more easily, but is still very agile, stability was lovely, and the Hatch covers are proper kayaksport ones, the kayak felt more like how a real sea kayak should feel. Its only available in one size but i suspect will fit a wide range of paddlers, has options on type of plastic, either tougher or lighter, depending what you want, and has option on a useful little pod in front of cockpit.

I have not tried any of these kayaks with a load, and they are all designed as day kayaks rather than gear haulers.

Whatever you end up with, comfort and fit are very important, have fun trying them all.

Thank you Simon64.

I am not lazy about doing background research, but that was very useful.

No problem, these are only my opinions, someone else may think the Hydra is the best of the lot, so still important to try them.
