8hr Aquatic First Aid Course. September 14th, Hertford

8hr Aquatic First Aid, certified by the British Canoeing Lifeguards.
Because this course is designed for those involved in paddlesport it's tailored to paddlers wearing kit, experiencing injuries and illnesses that may occur on a trip, or anywhere! As well as being a great all round course it is a prerequisite for Level 1 and Level 2 coaches.

Venue: Hertford Canoe Club Clubhouse
Date: Saturday 14th September
Start: 09:00
Finish: 17:00
Cost: £60
Maximum of 8 clients
Prerequisite: Minimum age of 16. No previous First Aid quals needed.

Cost £60 includes certification fees and first aid manual.
Validation lasts for 3 year

Syllabus
  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider;
    Assessing an incident;
    Unconscious casualties (including seizure);
    Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; including mannequins dressed in buoyancy aid and helmet;
    Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator;
    Choking;
    Wounds and bleeding;
    Shock;
    Medical emergencies (Heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis)
    Minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters);
    Environmental (Hypothermia and Hyperthermia)
Your course provider, Andrew Barras is 5* whitewater, 5* sea kayaker, Level 2 coach with Moderate Water Endorsement in WW and Sea, a registered paramedic and professional first aid instructor.
