Waterproof 'bags' for GPS mobile phone etc
Waterproof 'bags' for GPS mobile phone etc
I'm on my second Aquapac and conclude they're not very good. The first one simply leaked, on the second one the heavy mechanism at the opening has separated, its still usable but prone to leak slightly. Readers recommendations for alternative / better waterproof bags with at least one side clear so the device is readable ?

I've used several Aquapacs with no issues at all no leaks or failures perhaps the quality varies or has gone down

Re: Waterproof 'bags' for GPS mobile phone etc
Hi Jules,
I had an Aquapac bag for a GPS unit whic developed a leak and contributed to the demise of the GPS. I found a similar size bag from Overboard, less money and a bit sturdier, so far it's performed faultlessly.
If I could have found one available at the time I'd have gone for a model by Ortlieb. My experience with other waterproof kit from them is very positive.
Kind regards
Ian

I have given up on those little bags after many failures. I have a phone that is supposed to be waterproof for half an hour. In a leaking bag it can marinate itself in water all day and die. I now keep it loose, not in a pocket, somewhere where it can dry out after a dunking, and have had no problems, plus easier access. You can get hard waterproof cases for phones as well. The big drybags are more robust and will keep keys safe as well as clothes.

What are your requirements with the need for one clear side? Is it to operate or just to view?

I would recommend the Anker one, but sadly it seems like they don't make it any more. I'll been looking after the ones we have carefully...

SJD both - I have the GPS attached to the spraydeck for easy viewing and operation. For navigating in tidal streams, to quickly tell whether you're with or against the flow and for post trip track analysis, reminder of stopping places, fast flows etc.

A new brand of bag I've just come across - Nite ize RunOff. No idea how good they are but might try one.

I used a roll top dry bag with a clear window for about 5 years with no issues, I believe it was made by SealLine. It did start to delaminate so it was time to replace. While it was not claimed to be waterproof I never did have any water inside.
I was given a GoBagPro last Christmas and have had excellent luck so far; no water intrusion whatsoever. https://gobagpro.com/collections/gobag/ ... ag-dolphin
