European (And slightly beyond) options from now onwards...
Hello all,
I’m hoping to draw on your wealth of experience!
I’m currently travelling with my girlfriend in a van around Europe, she’s not a paddler but I’m hoping to get as much done as I can without her leaving me.
1 month in, our (very rough) plan at the moment is to travel down to the Algarve, back to Spain and then across to Morocco. After there our only other plan is to be in French Alps to meet friends in June.
So to get to point(s) -
1. Where on earth to go in Morocco? - I cant seem to find any guides?
2. What are the top places worth visiting in the rest of Europe (and when) that aren’t featured in WW North/South Alps guidebooks - I’m reasonably well acquainted with rivers featured here.
3. Links to any guides with your suggestions would also be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Scott

This year, the north Alps got the mega snow fall. The southern Alps, a lot less. Norway is primed as ever.

Some Morocco info here, but note this is from 15 years ago: http://www.thepoly.co.uk/tripreports/morocco.html
Rest of Europe: Slovenia, Greece, Montenegro, Turkey?

I think that kayaking in Morocco from now would be ambitious. There might just be some water around now, but any later and you'd have to be very lucky. Surf should be excellent though!
There is a german guidebook to morocco, though I seem to remember it was even older than frazers notes and a little ropey on the detail.
Some nice pics from our trip here and mentions of a few rivers, if you want a bit of info: http://www.pyranha.com/blog/easter_morocco/ Will try to dig our our river notes, I'm sure they're around somewhere!

For Morocco contact Pablo Cascardo at Karma Turismo Activo in Spain (www.karmaturismoactivo.com) - he speaks really good English and should be able to help. You could also contact Saltarios in Granada, as they also arrange trips to Morocco (https://www.raftingenandalucia.com/en/)

There’s a number of dam release rivers in the Pyrenees, which would make a good break between Morocco/Spain and France. Heading for Sort and the Noguesa Pallaresa is the obvious starting point, there’s a kayak shop and a couple of rafting companies in town, it’s a good warm up for the Alps, being alpine in character, but a bit less continuous (unless they have huge levels like last year).
