LL Freeride v Jackson Fun

Post by Steve Agar » Fri Feb 08, 2019 4:03 pm

We're heading out to the US this Summer and probably need to rent boats. Liquid Logic Freeride is available, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience of it compared with the Jackson Fun (2012 and 2017) and 4Fun that we paddle here?

I prefer the freeride, but I have an eclectic taste in boats.

Graham, thanks for the response, but a bit more detail would be helpful. Do you prefer it for its play characteristics or its river-running(or both), and does it still feel comfortable after a full day in the boat?

Hi Steve,

freeride has a more comfortable knee position (note I'm quite tall) so better for a long day paddling, I also feel it carves better on a wave and is a little less tail happy than the fun.

I find the tail on the fun (superfun in fact as I am lardy as well as tall) can be a bit of a pain to control - the freeride transitions without so much of a fight the fun I felt like it was more inclined to do it's own thing so needed more dynamic control.

The fun is great for a play session, but for a proper day long session, probably on something a bit larger than uk water, I would take the freeride.

Graham,

Thanks, that's helpful. I'm probably a similar size and paddle the 2017 Fun and suffer from lack of tail control in the older one (it happens with age) but all the girls in my family paddle the 2012 version but a bit of extra comfort will never go amiss.
