Kayaking on West Coast Ireland 2019

Post by ChrisnNicky » Sat Jan 12, 2019 6:06 pm

Hello everyone,
We are a couple that have been kayaking for a about 5 years now after having done our BCU certifications etc and have for the last 3 years been also going off the Coast of West Scotland near Oban, we don't live near there and its a long drive from the southeast but well worth it. We have over this past Christmas visited The West Coast of Ireland near Kinvara, County Galway/Clare to scout it out but did not take our sea Kayaks ( Shame). What a stunning location! We are going to go back in September this year, we would be looking for a couple of things. Normally when kayaking in a new area we like to hire a guide for the first day just to get the lowdown on various areas but also tide times , safety etc. Secondly we would then be looking for good locations, we would be looking to go out for up to about 6 hour duration's. We will be looking to hire a lodge or similar so we have a base which we would use to travel from each day. So basically, we are looking for advice on the various points. If anyone is able to offer advice we would be pleased for any advice and input.

Ali Donald should be able to answer all your questions; he’s the local sea kayaking legend.
