This course has been designed for paddlers. It has plenty of practical exercises including a 2 hour session on the water running through a series of incidents. Maximum class size of 6.

Venue: Hertford Canoe Club
Dates: March 2nd and March 9th
Prerequisites: over 16yrs of age
Cost: £99 includes Red Cross First Aid manual and Certification.

Day 1 (Saturday 2nd March)
Today’s sessions will focus on
• Basic Life Support, including management of people in paddling kit.
• Injuries.
• Medical Conditions.
• Scenarios on dry land.
The session on injuries will focus on those that may be sustained whilst kayaking. However the Day 1 sessions will provide everyone with the skills required to deal with everyday events, so will be of use at home, at work and whilst out and about. Please wear clothes suitable for lying and sitting on the ground.

Day 2 (Saturday 9th March)
Today’s session will have an emphasis on being remote, and decision making during an incident.
• Considerations for expeditions.
• Incident Management.
• Moving People
• Hand over to rescue services.
• Scenarios on the water.
• Debrief
The day will start and finish in the classroom but we will spend at least a couple of hours on the water, going through some scenarios as if we were out on a river or sea kayaking trip. This is not a rescue course but as you may get wet, please choose to wear kit that will keep you warm and dry.
