Fraser Expedition kayak for sale

Post by Slime » Mon Nov 26, 2018 11:38 am

Vintage, classic Kevlar kayak for sale.

This is a Katana ww kayak, 4m long - strong, fast and light.

The boat is in good watertight condition and would make a great boat for recreational touring. My friend Sue Jenkins chose it to paddle the Wye last year and loved it. It was made in an expensive Kevlar laminate in 1981 and since then it has spent most of the last 27 years hanging in a garage. The kayak was recently checked over and repaired by Mark Applin of Overwater Boats.

Specs
Length 4m
Width 60cm
Cockpit 75 x 45cm
Volume large
Colour Red
Weight 14kg - that’s about half that of many modern ww and sea kayaks!
Location Keswick
Price 60 pounds of best offer (includes a spraycover)

History of this Kayak
This was one of six boats specially made for the 800 mile 1981 River Fraser Kayak Expedition and is the last surviving boat – it was used by Suzy Hornby to make the first womens descent of the notorious Hells Gate rapid. The descent was filmed by the team for the BBC Mick Burke Award and won the title of Best Expedition Film of 1982. One or two older members may even remember watching it. I need to sell the boat as I am moving house and won’t have room to store it, however I would love it to go to a good home so please make me an offer!

n.b. This is a small cockpit kayak and not ideal for kids use.
