Mystery slides

Post by Dave Manby » Sat Aug 11, 2018 12:20 pm

My mate has just found these slides and has no recollection of taking them or where they are of or who is in the pictures. Stamped on the slide is Aug 1978 so has to be before that. We went to Austria and the Braldu that year so might be Austria.

We don't think it's the Ardez. If it's on the Inn it's more like the Brail.

I think the Ardez is a deeper/rockier gorge than that. Could it be the middle Sill? If you have any other photos showing the mountains more clearly it might help.

I wondered if it might be the Wellerbrücke section on the Ötz

IN 1978 in glass boats - I very much doubt it. Mind you in about 1973 Mike Jones and the British Universities Tour that he was leading nearly ran the Wellebrucke section by mistake. Back in those days the old road went over a bridge very like the bridge at the put on for the Lower Oetz above the Wellebrucke section. Back then Mike working on memory from the previous years trip to the Alps drove over the bridge "recognised" it as the bridge for the Lower Oetz and put on. Luckily he and I think Annette Ramage realised that it was the wrong bridge - because it was flat! - where as the Lower Oetz yu put on break out into a class three rapid. They scrambled into eddies and got off! CLOSE CALL!

I posted the photos in a Tirol kayakers WhatsApp group (hope that's ok!) and a few people thought the Pitzbach (Walschlucht)
