Hi all,
Myself and three others are hoping to head to the Stockholm Archipelago from around 1 - 15th August. We are also planning to take bikes. Does anyone know if it is possible to get x4 sea kayaks on a roof rack of a car like you do with WW boats, and if it is possible please let me know how!
Also, any top tips for sea kayaking in Sweden in this region and during this time of year.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Transporting sea kayaks
We have a Hyundai i40 estate, I know it will be a push, but just wondering if it is possible as used to put 4 ww boats on roof all the time. I'm assuming this will be a lot more difficult! Any ideas on roof racks? Thank you

Re: Transporting sea kayaks
The trouble is many roofracks are only rated at 50 or 75kg. You could try a van rack which tend to be stronger. Also, you might need to extend it out each side to get 4 boats on. You'll have to check if this is legal in Sweden and any other country you will be crossing, I'm not sure it's legal here actually. I'd use J - cradled with the boats on their sides. Whether you can actually fit 4 on will depend on what kayaks you have to a large extent. You'll also need to think about the effect 4 kayaks, 4 bikes, 4 people and 4 sets of baggage will have on your MPG. Might be easier and not much more expensive to take 2 cars, plus it will be more flexible.
Have you looked into hiring a trailer?

Take 2 cars, use the extra room to stock up on alcohol, which is very expensive in Sweden and only available at Government shops (beer is in supermarkets but limited to 3.5%)

Check vehicle logbook. A max roof load should apply . Insurance could be invalid if over. I40 max of 75kg via Thule site

Alternatively rent whilst there. A quick google search came up with:

No idea if they are any good as never been there.
