What to wear now it is warming up.

Post by geomickb » Wed May 16, 2018 10:25 am

Hi,

I have been wearing a secondhand dry(ish) suit but I am getting far too hot now.

What do you guys wear for WWK at this time of year?

My roll keeps failing in the river so this means I usually take at least one swim.

Thanks,

Mick

I'm currently (well, not at this precise moment) wearing a long semidry cag with a fleece underneath. If I feel too warm initially, I do a roll or splash myself with water.

For legs, I wear neoprene strides. If I were expecting swims, I would probably put my semidry trousers on top of those.

This combo is warm, but gives the option of letting water in to cool yourself down when necessary.

I always dress for the swim - it's easier to cool down than to warm up.

I have been in a short sleeved IR cag with a short sleeved thermal top under it, a pair of IR shorts and my creeking shoes for the last month and will probably be dressed like this for paddling now until the end of September and into October.

Shorty cagdeck and a rashy.

If it gets any sunnier, It'll be just the rashy and a deck

You know it's only a matter of time until you're naked paddling. May as well start now.
Saves all that drying kit out palava. And it keeps the fisherfolk away.
Win, win if you ask me.

Insect repellent is what you need.

Just been looking myself and I think Palm horizon shorts and a neo-flex ss top will be my next buys.

Dry Cag & IR Shorts or Short Ti Vest & IR Shorts depending how hot it is for artificial.....

Drysuit on rivers.

Semi-cag has been too hot.

I have been using some Peak Neoskin strides and a rash-vest or 1mm neoprene rash-vest.

It has been pretty comfortable paddling (it has been hot :-)) but not had a swim for a couple of weeks..........

Pretty much since the first Nookie Ti Tops came out many moons ago (those cool blue and silver ones) they have been my go to summer paddling top.

Ti Top with either a Reed Transpire Fleece Top or a Helly Hanson Dry (or similar) base layer depending on the temp.
I generally pair it with some IR guide shorts or some Neo strides.

I find it really nice and free feeling to paddle in such minimal kit too.

Ideal warmer weather paddling kit.

Yes, they're brilliant.

A bugger to get off, but brilliant!!

A thin base layer thermal is your friend ;)

My preference is a Helly Hanson Dry
