Mile End Mill
I was disappointed to discover during a visit today that Llangollen Outdoors are pulling out of Mile End Mill at the end of this month.
I would like to thank them for providing a valuable bankside park and play facilty, with a low key and very welcoming atmosphere. I hope that whoever takes over will be equally friendly to itinerant unattached paddlers!
Thanks again!
Jerry.

Re: Mile End Mill
That listing isn't for the main mill building with car park etc: it's the block next door with limited parking and no river access.

Re: Mile End Mill
I took it as the mill building, with permission to build more (possibly on the car park area).
Is there any public right of way there? If not, it's quite likely to be houses & gardens in a year or 2....

Re: Mile End Mill
Chalky, you've misread the listing. This plot is for the half of the mill building that used to have the bed refurbishment business (the downstream side). It has limited parking and no river access as its river frontage is a steep wall. It's been on the market for a while and has failed to sell at auction. The plot price seems fair, but the build costs would be significant.
The part you're thinking of is next to this plot on the upstream side. It has Nomad canoes, Llangollen Outdoors (for the next week or so) and the old rafting centre with the collapsed asbestos roof, as well as the large car park that paddlers use. This is not currently on the market.
There is no public right of way to any of the site.

Re: Mile End Mill
I was pleased to discover during a return visit at the weekend that this site is now under very positive and paddler-friendly new management, with a long-term lease. I would therefore like to encourage other paddlers to return to using this venue. Note that the small park-and-play charge is for parking and launching - they are not attempting to charge for use of the river!
There seems to be a tendency for older/middle-aged playboaters such as myself to congregate at the lower end of this site; should this feature now be renamed as the 'Bus-Pass Wave'?!

Re: Mile End Mill
Is the Mile End Mill site still a launch point? Do they charge? What are the opening hours? Long time since I've been up there, and I've been reading some worrying things about the site.
Re: Mile End Mill
Yes, it’s still the place to go. It’s run by River Active now and the charge for paddlers is just £3 which includes launching, parking and use of toilet and changing rooms if you want them.
Hours are 9-5 I think.
