Word of warning: don't be tempted to paddle down to Hopehouse!
The section from Ramseycleuch to Hopehouse starts pretty nice, but soon enters some fairly inhospitable overgrown marshes which require some wading and portaging to battle your way through the trees. We should have probably guessed by the name of Ettrick Marshes Nature Reserve that things might not have been straightforward...
