Wanted - ideas/offers of old school playboats/river play

Post by no9ismine »

My beautiful Nomad is starting to make the easier stuff a little tame now so after something to liven up the lower grades and WW courses for me.

I'm 5'8 and 70kg and looking for something small and slicy, along the lines of an I3, Riot Booster or a modern version like Varun, Loki or similar.

I'm not looking to get big air so a modern playboat seems a bit redundant but something comfortable that I can throw around would be brilliant!

However I do seem to be an odd shape so would need to try stuff out so anywhere near Sheffield, Milton Keynes, Chester, Tees Barrage, HPP

Budget of £100 to £350 I suppose

Cheers in advance!

You're about the same height and weight as me. How about a Dagger Ego?

Have just replied to your other thread, but I would add here.... Get a Varun, it will make you smile :) It makes me smile regularly on Gd 2 / 3 / in the pool. I'm 5'9 / 68kg and paddle a medium.

You are fairly small and light - this means you can fit in almost any boat and have lots of fun. Have a look on the sale board - there is a lot of choice. Get something cheap, paddle for a while to see if you like it and sell on if you don't.

I'd recommend: Ego, Disco, S8 225, Ace 4.7, Shock, Prozone 225, XXX so many second hand choices.

If you go new you could try and Fun, Varun or Loki but if you just want to try stuff I'd go 2nd hand first. Just ask if you are at hpp or tees barrage and I'm sure you'll get some advice and a go in some boats - people are pretty friendly. I'd let you have a go in my old skool fleet but I'm 6'4" so don't have anything to fit you!

Phil, that's what I'm thinking but nothing seems to have come up in the right place for me to try.

I do seem to have a problem with legs fitting in slicier/play boats so that's the main reason I want to try out at least on dry land

Probably at the Barrage this Saturday so hopefully there'll be a few generous souls there who'll let me have a go

You may find when you actually buy a boat you need to take out all of the padding/outfitting and redo it for yourself. In older slicey boats it was common to customize outfitting and just paddle in wetsuit socks or thin booties.

You're welcome to take my EZG 50 out to the Washburn / Tees for a play. It never gets used but should fit the bill nicely for you.
