Greetings! I'm sure this forum has the best living Nordkapp experts on the planet. Does anyone recognise the model generation of this rather strange looking boat? It's for sale here in Finland. No day hatch, round front hatch, skeg, and a very 90's graphics/colour scheme. It's an original from Valley, not a knock off.
Thanks!

That combination doesn't sound too odd for 1990s Nordkapp. No day hatch, round front hatch, skeg, and a very 90's graphics/colour scheme

Re: Peculiar Nordkapp?
Have a look through the article in the Almanac https://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/nordkapp
I think it's an original Nordkapp (ie, not a Jubilee or an H2O) from early 1990's.
I did initially question whether it might be a Jubilee, even though it didn't look right, as the article first mentions a skeg (adjustable rather than moulded in) when describing the Jubilee, but the Jubilee's skeg is cable operated, and the boat in your photos has a rope operated skeg. I'm sure that's an original Valley skeg, not fitted by an owner, as the rope arrangement, the elastic pull-down and the fitting where it goes through the deck are the same as Valley Skerray XL I had.
There's a suggestion in the article that the first two digits of the serial number might show the year. I'm not convinced about that as it wasn't the case on my Skerray.

Not sure if this is of any use...Chris Bolton wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 2:24 pmThere's a suggestion in the article that the first two digits of the serial number might show the year. I'm not convinced about that as it wasn't the case on my Skerray.
Thanks for the info. I wonder if the red/black deck graphics are original? I've never seen a Nordkapp with that sort of thing and can't find any mention of it either.

Re: Peculiar Nordkapp?
I missed it before but there's also a comment in the article that the year may be the last two digits not the first two. In which case it might be '96.
I've seen several Nordkapps with very unusual customised colours, hull and deck. If it's moulded in, it will be original, and if it's not, it won't be.

Re: Peculiar Nordkapp?
They will be Kajak Sport covers on the original Valley hatch rims. Kayak Sport use a much more durable rubber than Valley and sell covers to fit Valley boats (I have been told that the manufacturing process is more polluting which is why Valley don't use it, but I don't know if that's true)Unusual to see Kayak sport hatches on a Valley kayak.
Re: Peculiar Nordkapp?
Ok, the current best guess is that this is an "original" Nordy from the mid-90's, before they introduced the Jubilee? I was previously under the impression that Nordkapps of that vintage all had a day hatch, but apparently not.
Thanks!
