Expedition Kayaks Podcast

Post by EK Sydney »

G'day Folks,
We've entered the world of podcasting, with a relaxed hour or so of tall tales from paddlers in our part of the world. The first episode is up, a chat over a couple of bottles of red with Kate & Steve Dawson, two of our sea kayaking, surf ski'ing, marathon paddling mates who are about to head to the US to take on the Texas WaterTribe race and the legendary Yukon Quest.
I hope you enjoy the yarn.
Mark.

Our most recent podcast is live, a chat about our very favourite sea kayaks over the years. There are lots of British designed and built boats discussed, as well as few views on why our kayaking in Australia has maybe evolved slightly differently to your in the UK. Hope you enjoy our ramblings. Link is below.

Episode 4 is up online, our mates Kate & Steve Dawson's tale of competing in the Texas water Safari. Although I figured I knew what this ultra event was all about, I'll admit that as they spun their yarn I was genuinely surprised by the challenge. Hope you enjoy it.

Episode 5 is up, the Dawson’s account of the 700km Yukon River Quest in Canada. Kate and Steve paddled a double sea kayak down one of the most gruelling race courses in the world.
Hope you enjoy the yarn.

Episode 6 just loaded, titled Big Swell, Big Seas, Big Wind, Big Risk & Big Consequences. A shorter listen contemplating the things you should consider if you're looking to take on really demanding sea conditions.

Our latest podcast episode is up and live, the tale of the latest sea kayak we have designed and are now building here in Australia, the Audax Azure.
If you've ever been curious about what's involved in designing and then bringing a design to life, this is a short chat about our journey.
Hope you enjoy the tale.
Mark.

We've loaded another podcast, this one a tale of two mates getting together to spend a bit of bloke time together, and having a crack at the local ultra marathon race series, which culminates in a 111km overnighter. It's blokey....

EK Podcast - Episode 9, Bob Turner's Journey Across Bass Strait
Bob Turner started paddling in 2007, and very quickly decided a worthy goal would be to paddle across Bass Strait, on its day one of the most daunting stretches of water in the world.
It took him eleven years to fulfil the promise, but the paddling journey to get there was as diverse and interesting as the expedition that capped it all off.
In this episode Bob recalls his personal paddling life and then relives the Bass Strait crossing in 2018, which he did with Rob, Mark, Andrew and Gazza.
There's even a review of some craft beers that were consumed to lubricate the conversation...!

Mark & 'the Don',
This is magnificent. Such a great podcast.
I'd watched the video of the trip but this chinwag (along with the background music of cans opening and bottles being uncorked) had me laughing out loud as you boys banter your way through the story. Sounded such a fantastic trip and was superb getting to know a bit more about 'the Don' and his paddling background.
Keep these coming !

Thanks mate, glad you liked it! We thought it was important to get back into expedition mode if we were going to do the journey justice in a podcast...!
