I'm a newbie on here and mainly a paddle-boarder these days (but I've kayaked and canoed all my life) so please go easy on me!
On Saturday June 15th I leave Abersoch main beach to take on #thehometownpaddle for Cancer Research. My daughter has just had the all clear following a skin cancer operation so I wanted to raise some funds. I made #thepaddleboardcommute in 2017 and got good media coverage (BBC TV etc) and raised well over £2000.
I'm paddling my SUP from Abersoch to Poynton (arriving Wednesday evening 10th July at Higher Poynton on the Macclesfield Canal) by sea, estuary, river and canal and I really need some company, and (on some of the trickier stretches) guiding/escort please. I suspect in many cases kayakers are best placed to help. I've attached my draft itinerary and a route map - any paddler is welcome to join me on the canal system when I get there, experienced sea paddlers are welcome on the sea stretches and any paddlers at all are welcome on the sheltered first mile across Abersoch Bay.
I've got experienced escorts from Abersoch round to Porth Oer on the Llyn Peninsula which will get me across Hell's Mouth and through the tricky Bardsey Sound and I'm confident of an escort down the Menai Straits (but alternative/additional company is welcome). Where I really need route guidance (I'm happy to vary the route/put-ins/take-outs etc as advised) and local, experienced paddling company is:
1. Getting around The Great Orme from Conwy to Llandudno - Wednesday 26th June
2. Crossing the mouth of the Dee estuary from Talacre to Hoylake - Monday 1st July (can be varied a day either way)
3. Rounding the Wirral peninsula from Hoylake to Rock Ferry - Tuesday 2nd July (can be varied a day either way)
4. Taking the Mersey Estuary from Rock Ferry down to Runcorn should this be safely possible - Wednesday 3rd July (can be varied a day either way)
I've got a strong sense of self preservation so if I can't get company on the more challenging stretches, or conditions are too bad (headwinds are the enemy of paddleboarders,) I will be deflating my Red Paddleboard and carrying it along the Coastal path or overland as needed until I reach a safe stretch.
I'd welcome the advice, guidance and company of anybody on here who can help.
My JustGiving page is here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kevin-bell14 and I will have a support team with me raising cash along the way with Cancer Research buckets.
I live backing onto Hell's Mouth beach just outside Abersoch - I'll be really happy to take any #thehometownpaddle helpers paddleboarding, surfing, paddleboard surfing or bass fishing when I get back!
