On Sunday we explored the Fort Darnet and Fort Hoo in the Medway, the is a fantastic little trip however there was one thing which we may have done differently.
where did you put in?
Been considering a trip to explore the Medway but it seems to have very few places to launch from (as you seem to have discovered!!).
Yikes Mark, that reminds me of many parts of the Solway at low tide. Hopefully it was not too smelly? Was there a hosepipe anywhere near where you left the cars?
Oh yes, the Medway mud is very smelly and extremely sticky, I've found it takes a good few washes to get rid of it all!
Fortunately I've never had to return when the tide was that far out, so who was to blame for the tidal planning ;)
Yes you really don't want to land at The Strand slipway anywhere near low tide. Spring or neap, doesn't seem to make much difference. It's been getting worse over the years, slowly silting up higher and higher.
I once spent a half hour in the toilets trying to wash the mud off my legs and my paddle before I dared get back in my car.
The last time, my paddling buddy was friends with the sailing club and they let us use their hose.
