Norwegian Air - Kayak Friendly?

Post by joereadickins » Fri Apr 21, 2017 10:47 am

Looking at the specs on their website it would seem creek boats are too long:

"Your gear must not exceed 250 x 79 x 112 cm (L x H x W)"

Anyone got first hand experience with them?

Cheers
Joe

Thought I'd expand on this now I've more time.

We've twice rung customer service to confirm as they don't specifically list kayaks and the conversation has gone something like:

"Is it a surfboard?"
"No"
"Is it a windsurfer?"
"No"
"Then it's an additional bag. £20 each way"

Manchester and Oslo Gaerdemoen have only been interested in the weight in the 3 years we've been going through them (Mamba with kit hidden in it from memory), although I agree that it does fail the dimension test and if they decide to get a tape measure out one day then it'll all be over.

Agreed, great airline. Taken my folding canoe (big feck off bag) through no problems, just under 20kg. Not overly bothered about dimensions, but did check weight.

Not as long as a kayak in its bag, but still pretty huge...

...waiting for it on the conveyor is always a slightly "heart in mouth" moment, though its always turned up. (separate conveyor to normal bags at Gardermoen, but not returning at Gatwick).

Yep, they're awesome. Didn't even weigh my bag or boat. They did measure my kayak, they've got the dimensions drawn on the floor by the oversized luggage area. My kayak was too big. They took it regardless!

Interesting development. I was afraid they might get round to that. Which airport please?
