Accommodation Briancon area?
Accommodation Briancon area?
Anyone know of accommodation around Briancon/Argentiere with fairly easy access for Durance etc? Chalets? Basic is fine.
Looking for accommodation for a group of around four and going early enough in the year that if cost is not prohibitive then warmth and comfort would be good.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Alex

I rented a really nice chalet via Stuart Woodwood of www.canoecontrol.com (it belonged to a friend of his) that was very near the Durance in Argentiere.
..this is going to get worse before it gets better..
We have tended to book Gites in the area for the last 2 or 3 years and they have always been very good and reasonably priced. All bookable over the net

We have used "Mona Lisa" Hotels and stayed at La Guisane, in Briancon. You can see them at http://www.monalisahotels.com/public/ho ... n.php?id=9

Accomodation near Briancon
Take a look at Kate and Mark Banks web site www.alpineplayground.com
They have a number Gites and apartment in and around the Briancon Vallouise area. Anything from large groups to two people.
We have used their property for many years, good value for money.

We got a chalet from http://www.alpbase.com/english/chalets/apartment.html - they have a few in Vallouise / Les Vigneaux.
We had "chalet Choucas" between 5 and reckoned that though it cost a bit more than camping it was worth it since having a fridge meant we didn't have to do a daily trip to the supermarket. It was easily walkable into Vallouise village.
The owner is English (but he does talk a lot.....).
We booked at fairly short notice and were able to book the fri night too i.e. total of 8 nights, since the chalet wasn't occupied the week before.

A really big advantage to book with kate and Mark Banks (www.Alpineplayground.com) is you will get loads of great advice.
As residents they know the area really well, ski all winter, mountain bike, sail lakes and paddle the rivers in the summer.
They are great friends of both Slime and myself. They helped me a huge amount when I came to the area first.
If you have any problems kate will try her best to help.
Stuart.
