Best Skullcap for kayaking!?

Hi there,

With so many skull caps on the market i'm struggling to find one that is superioir. I take a L in the playboater skullcap which i tried in the shop, but i want to getmax value for my cash!

If anyone has any info or reviews please tell me! I'm looking to buy one ASAP due to super cold weather and i want one thats works!

I used to wear a skill cap, but these days find that a well fitting helmet with good insulation is more than warm enough. And ear plugs, for play boating they are a must.

Playboater ones are good. Over time (years) they shrink, and get thin. I've had three, I rate them highly. My current one is coming to the end of its days, and I now have a Palm header as a replacement, haven't used it yet though, so can't say it is any good or not.

I use a Peak UK with the grey coloured (titanium?) lining and find its great. I get very little water in and its also pretty warm and I don't need to wear my earplugs. If its not cold I use my earplugs on their own.

I swear by my Reed aquatherm with chinstrap. It keeps my dreadlocks in check, its very warm and comfortable and affordable, i think it was £19 with the aquatherm. One thing though, if your a large order an XXL coz they seem to be tiny or made by Hobbits. I ordered a L and had to send it back, they made an XXL especially and sent it back within a day, dont know how they managed that, but they did! Whenever i forget this bit of kit i am gutted and start to utter obscenities very loud like its the end of the world :)

That's the best one I've ever owned, I was disappointed when I bought a new one and it didn't have the titanium lining, so not sure if they're still available or not. Highly recommend, it would often keep my hair completely dry whilst playboating, and thus nice and warm.

I've got the play boater one. I've found it okay but nothing special. Interested to know what the other caps are like...

Totally agree - no point - good helmet and dry suit and you're away.

Yeah, and another vote for not needing one. But only coz if it's really cold enough to need one you have to ask if you should be in the pub instead.

cheersa for all the info, i went for the nookie one becuase it has a titanium material and has their ti glide system and seem to have good reviews.. also not a bad price for £15.

Let us know how it does because in panic I now find that Peak may not do the Titanium lined version and I am getting near replacement time.

so, i bought the nookie ti skullcap. First imoressions.. WARM :D. its comfy, stretches when wet so covers your ears, and dosen't look too bad under a helmet.

The only negative i would say is that the strap can give a little strap burn, but i wear a neckerchief around my neck to prevent this :) Having the said this, the strap is tight, which ensures it stays on.

If anyone else wants me to review any other parts of my kit jsut let me know.. i know how hard it can be to find decent reviews on what to buy!

I'd go for the black full face chillcheater cap
makes you look like some sort of sex pervert
but it does what it says on the tin and keeps
you warm even in winter.

Have worn it a bunch of times now. I put it on my head, my head was warm, and it is a comfy fit and the inside is super soft.
