Posting Images & Links

Post by MikeB » Sun Dec 31, 2006 2:59 pm

Want to post an image? Here's a lovely short description of how - (copied from Inland, in a post by Big Henry).

How to post an image:

1. select image on your computer and upload it to the web - I've used http://imageshack.us/ which seems dead easy

2. On this site, click on Post Reply, then

a) click the Img button
b) enter url (web address) of the DIRECT LINK to image
c) click the Img button (which is now Img*)

so it looks like this:

without the spaces in the square brackets. It should look like this:

For a much more detailed explanation, including how to make links, and other stuff, have a look at this article in the Almanac

If you've only just joined the Community, we have controls in place which stop a new member being able to insert "links" into a message for their first few posts! That's because of all the sad people who want to spam us to death!

Mike,
is it worth mentioning something about the max size you should put up?

Good point!

In terms of physical size, 600 x 400'ish is a good size, so if you can resize, do so please.

In terms of the actual size of the image file (kb's), then if you have photoediting software it would be helpful to edit and save as "low" to "medium" quality. If you use Photoshop (and no doubt others will do this too) then you have a "save for web" option which will do nicely.

In response to Big Henry's original post I wrote this:
If you want to post examples of how to include links, images etc. - mark them as Code, like this:

Code: Select all

That way phpBB knows you want to show the code, not the actual image, so you won't have to add those confusing extra spaces!
