Seven of us camped out at Loch Na Droma Buidhe near Oronsey Island, Loch Sunart on Saturday night. We were treated to a spectacular display of the Northern Lights. They were bright enough to be reflected off the water. Did anyone else see them?

Didn't see them, but would have liked to very much. What time of the night did they start?

We were staying in Arisaig and saw the Northern Lights at 22:00 hrs – dancing over the Sleat Penninsula. A band of green on the horizon with ‘searchlights’ appearing and fading. Patches of pale greenish light present at different times & quadrants during the evening. The main show seemed to last about 20 mins or so. Saturday turned out to be a great day in the Mallaig area (much better than the east coast I believe).

The best display I have ever seen was from Glen Borrodale on Loch Sunart a few years ago with flashes and bands of reds, yellows and greens. That is the only time I have seen colours other than green or white.

There is a forecast service here:

Argh, oh no! We were camping just round the headland S of Arisaig on Sat night, and saw no aurora - disaster! Fantastic stars, though - as good as the Seychelles. The beach was facing S, so I suppose we looking the wrong direction for the aurora. Lucky you!

Mike Marshall and co who are up here on a surfing trip were treated to the northern lights the other night. They were camped out at Torisdale Beach at Bettyhill

3 of us camping on the Summer Isles saw them at about 21:50 Saturday, and they lasted about 15 minutes that we saw to the N / NW.
