hurley friday 3rd?

Post by NathanE » Thu Jan 02, 2014 7:50 pm

I've never been to Hurley but will be therabouts tomorrow. Anyone fancy a lunchtime/early afternoon trip to show me the ropes?

Whilst I'm new to playboating I don't need a nanny, just some company, as I'm not a fan of the idea of paddling solo.

Hurley is way too big at the moment; no-one is paddling there!

Aha, thanks for letting me know. Just a bit pants that when it's raining I'm stuck at home and there's too much water to play in the wiers!

Lots of good info on predicting the number of gates open at Hurley here (the TVF site also has lots of good info on Hurley and pretty much any other playable weir on the Thames);

http://www.tvfreestylers.co.uk/thames-weir-guides/

This allows you to work out how many gates will be open, using Thames flow information available here;

http://www.mwronline.net/mrc/default.aspx

For Hurley at it's best, you want three gates, probably around 80 cumecs.

I'm always up for paddling Hurley (or indeed any of the other weirs - but so far only 'know' Hurley and Mapledurham), but am still fairly new to playboating. Give me a shout if you're free when the level drops off a bit and we'll arrange it.

Cheers,
Colin

Sounds Good Colin, will do.

I'm pretty keen to find early weekend slots to avoid the worst of the traffic on the m25 and make the most of time later in the day if that suits.

Yep, sounds good to me.

It may take a while for the level to drop off enough for Hurley to become usable, we could use Mapledurham or similar in the meantime if that appeals?

Just trawling through some old posts and thought I'd revive this one. PM me Nathan if you're still keen to paddle Hurley, as it is now at just about the prefect level. :)
