New Years Eve Extinction Rebellion fireworks paddle Thames fo

Post by Helen Highwater » Wed Nov 06, 2019 2:00 pm

Are there any kayak rebels out there? If so, please let me know! I'm trying to link us up for future actions. First off being an illuminated kayak swarm on the Thames on New Years Eve. The tides are auspicious for Battersea Church slipway to Westminster Bridge, arriving at low tide at 23.20 to watch the fireworks and coming back on the rising tide, having had some merry larks along the way. Distance is 6.2miles. Get in touch and spread the word !

Do the “Merry larks” include dodging the police launches who will be trying to stop you going into a restricted area without a licence? This actually sounds dangerous - in the dark, also dodging the big pleasure boats taking folk there to watch the fireworks whose crew’s night vision will be wrecked by what is going on around them, and the huge crowds on the banks bringing out the anti terrorist police who will be extra jumpy about stopping illegal vessels.

I don’t think this is a good idea.

Where’s the restricted area, and what licence is required?

“All recreational vessels navigating between Tower Bridge and Vauxhall Bridge from 21:00 on 31st December 2019 to 01:30 on the 1st January 2020 are to hold a NYE2019 licence.”

Surely the correct thing to do is for all users of UKRGB to apply for these NYE2019 licences ...... and co-ordinate applications to arrive on the morning of December 20th?????

There is the possibility that they will not issue you with a licence. It might not just be a money gathering exercise but a numbers management exercise.

There's something a little bit hypocritical about supporters of extinction rebellion indulging with the wanton burning of a load of noxious chemicals
