Kari-Tek Security

Post by Northern Blue » Fri Jun 30, 2017 8:25 pm

I've recently had a Kari-Tek High Lift fitted to my panel van camper and as there will be times when the van is parked unattended for hours on end, while I'm off up mountains and I got to thinking that the kayak would be at risk of theft.

While it's up on the roof, the kayak is pretty inaccessible and would have a securing cable, as well as an accessory loop that connects to the camper alarm, but if parked somewhere remote, this would allow someone the time to work out how to release the KT locking clips and get the kayak to the side of the camper.

I went for simple and bought a pair of weatherproof long shank padlocks, drilling a single hole in each arm of the KT frame, allowing the shackles to clamp the locking clips in place. Hopefully it will prove unnecessary, but should deter a poorly equipped opportunist ?
