Deck Slates.

Post by SeaSkye »

Anyone out there with any idea of where i can obtain an old style Deck Slate ?

I know Knoydart used to do them but when i inquired they said the bloke who used to make them has retired.Searched the web but came up with zilch!

Any help would be appreciated.

White 'Fablon', just cut a suitable shape and stick it on. The sticky backing seems very tolerant of sea water. The Fablon does eventually get scrapped and torn, it is easy to peel it off and stick on another bit. I find pencil as good as anything for writing and it erases with some vigorous rubbing

As an alternative you could try one of these.

They attach to your wrist.
I found it to be reasonable when I took off a couple of the plastic 'leaves'.

I got a few made up and I will have a look to see if I have any left, if so you are welcome to one. I will try and remember to look and see if I can find them tomorrow.

Cheers

I was off this afternoon so have checked. I have some good news and bad news. First the bad news, I don't have any deck slates left, but the good news is that I found the template to get some made up. A friend made the template, and all you need to do is go to a vehicle sign maker(waterproof) and get some made up. Knoydart used to charge around £20 per slate and you can get them made up for a £1or£2 each but need a minimum run of 10 normally.
Let me know if you want me to send you the template and you can send it back when you are finished.

Cheers

Milk bottle, Margarine Tub, with roughgh side up
Good surveyors pencil
Jobs a good one
In my BA I have these credit carrd sizes or fag packe sized, with students names on them to write assessments I also use these for coaching promts of what I want to cover. A hole is punched in the corner and held together with lawers ties.

Colin

Thanks very much for the offer, if you don't mind I will hold fire at the moment as I may possibly have laid my hands on a slate through another member, will find out later on in the month. If that falls through I may come back to you.

Thanks again for the offer.

If there is interest, I know a printer who can make these up for probably less than a pound plus postage.

Post a reply if anyone is interested

Do you want my template or can you get someone to do the design work? I don't live far from you so it would not be problem sorting something out.

Colin,

I can copy the Koydart one, I teach CorelDRAW at school and that's a standard Printer's software, so no worries there.

I'll email him, he normally works on how many to fit on a sheet as that's the main cost. He will laser cut them and they will have small radiussed corners to ease picking off the paper.

I'll post an image of the slate next week for comment or additions. I'll then take PMs with number and addresses.

What about a chinagraph pencil like:- http://www.transair.co.uk/sp+Black-Prop ... encil+4667

and a sheet of laminated paper?

I use an A5 laminated paper velcroed to the bike tank when we go touring. Just a thought :-)

Has anybody found a short chinograph pencil? Like the free pencils you get in IKEA? I kept a couple of chinograph pencils in my BA pocket but they have turned to mush. I also find them very fragile. The propelling ones look like an option.

Thanks

Hi MattB,

Try Listo. They are mechanical grease pencils that are easy to find in eBay.

Friend who is making them, at cost, is busy. He runs a print business form home.

Will post up in a few days.

We're almost a month on from this - if you want to send me the artwork I'll get it sorted via a guy I know - otherwise I could recreate it myself I guess. Mike

These are being printed, wiht a UV stabile laminate, and are just smaller than A4 and are £3 a set, plus free P+P.

Remember these have been done as a favour, at cost price, and the total number fit a sheet, hence the number.

15 Sets - preferably one set each and if demands higher than 15, the next batch won't have free postage, probably just a bit more.

Please PM me -
