RNLI approve year's trial of lifeboat for Harris A Mersey class lifeboat could be stationed at Leverburgh
Harris on the Western Isles is to get a lifeboat during a year-long trial by the RNLI.

A Mersey class lifeboat is expected to provided to cover an area of sea that is about two hours away from the nearest station at Stornoway on Lewis.

The RNLI will gauge the success of the Leverburgh trial before consideration is given to setting up a permanent station.

The boat and crew should be in place next year.

Leverburgh will be Scotland's newest station following the creation of Loch Ness RNLI which started duties in 2008.

Yep good news indeed - but it looks so small that once the crew's aboard, I doubt if there will be any room for casualties :)

We're really getting ourselves organized for more tourists out here with a http://www.hsar.org.uk team being established. Did our first night time exercise in driving rain and 40mph gusts for five hours on Friday evening and it was magic.
