OK, it's decision time . . . surf kayak question

Hi all,

OK, after 20+ years paddling and loving the surf I've decided that butt bouncing (while fun) isn't what it's all about.

I'm seriously looking at the Mega Neutron HDP but have had my head turned by the offer of a composite Prowler. My questions are: -

Will I get my arse handed to me on a plate in the prowler?

I like the seating position in the Neutron, is the prowlers more old school, narrow/low knee position?

Height - 6ft
Weight - 12st
Feet - 9

You are right about the seating position of the Prowler, however it is a seriously good beginer-intermediate boat (Johny Bingham won his World title in one). If you can try it out then do so, because composite kicks plastic arse frankly!!!

If the Prowler doesn't suit then the HDP Neutron is a good first choice.

My first surf boat was a Prowler, they are really forgiving and a lot more stable than some other surf boats. Didn't find the low volume tail an issue, it just takes a bit of practice to get over waves without being back looped. Seating is quite low and knees together, feels strange the first time but you get used to it. Its a great boat, a classic.

Its still Chris Hobsons favourite boat, can't argue with him - "To me, the best kayak is the Mega Ufo Prowler, its not the best by todays designs, but it was definitly my favourite!" -

Just realised, the boat I'm in in my avatar pic is a Prowler, it's a really capable boat.

The Prowler works best at 12.5st You would be pushing it if much over
13st. The boat rocks and you can get away with murder in it. Get it and you won't look back. It was designed for inter's to pros by Randy Phillips
and he knows his stuff. Check out the film (The Search 2) and watch Mr Phillips top moves, he paddles a ex- factor which is The Prowler's big brother.
