Did YOU paddle today ?

This thread seems to do really well on other forums but there isn't one here for paddling so here goes.
I paddled today, I was at Hamworthy with the wife so she could do self rescue practice on her Dag Midway. Force 4 gusting 6 on shore wind so good conditions for that type of thing. Stayed shallow but deep enough to do them without touching the bottom. She's getting there and only fell off the other way twice, once whilst a group stopped to watch her 😆. All good fun.

Well I haven't paddled today, I'm still convalescing, but I have enjoyed reading your post about Hamworthy which was one of my boyhood paddling and rowing areas, fishing for Bass too next to the long gone power station cooling water outlet, we used to paddle the other side of Hamworthy in Holes Bay as well. Maybe again sometime in the future.

No. Got back from Glastonbury yesterday and, apart from feeling as I usually do after existing on beer etc. for a week, I'm also a little bit paranoid from all the 'I've got Covid' reports coming in from the group I went there with... I did leave my house to walk to Lidl though, which I'm quite proud of.

Doing rescue practice when it's blowy sounds exciting though. Hopefully it will stand you both in good stead if you need to do it for real.

I only done a couple to show her how it's done. I now keep hold of the paddle despite it being tethered. I couldn't do that before but I can now. The water was much choppier too than when I've previously paddled in those winds.

Nice, I liked seeing the herons along the Stour in Christchurch on an l early morning, so a kingfisher would be brilliant

Yep, out with a group off Piel Island and Barrow, Cumbria. Not the rain and high winds forecast, only mild chop, stayed dry, body and brain tired, got bit sunburned, pub on the Island open; happy (ish) days :-)

Does Thursday 29th count? Did a full circumnavigation of the island of Iona with 5 buddies in VERY big seas, but wow what a day out that was!

Thanks P4ddy, that paddle certainly counted for us and the award winning Creel fish bar at Fionnphort was even open to help us celebrate at the end.

The wife and I paddled around lulworth cove today. Done a couple of deep water self rescues and she done some not so deep but she's getting better. Would like to paddle to Durdle door but as it was F3 gusting 4 I would rather be in a group as at the mouth of the cove and towards stair hole it gets a bit lively. It's not a long distance but it's long enough when there's no where to get out. Those conditions are completely different there to Poole harbour. Done a lot of snorkelling too.

Went out for 2 hrs earlier with a mix of paddling and swimming ...with full length wetsuit on although it was a little overkill in the heat it did stop the high uv rays and apparently it can be worse on the water as reflects back off .as I found out a few weeks with a bad burn in only a few hours .

Been slightly weary of the bass since a week ago when a big one jumped up and landed straight in front of me on the boat .nearly hitting my face with the sharp fins .we went fishing a few days later for several hours and didn’t get one bite !

Colwyn Bay, North Wales last night. 10 of us from Deva CC based in Chester went out for some safety and rescue practice. The sea temperature was perfect for swimming but I did get stung by a jellyfish.
Closer to home, the lifeboat was called out to some wild swimmers at West Kirby on the Wirral at 10pm last night - no casualties thank goodness.

Surfed the bore wave up the river Dee yesterday. It was only small but was running perfectly at about 12kmph from Queensferry to Saltney. Had a great ride.

Yep, once again at Poole harbour. Put in just before low water and boy was it low lol. Paddled to Rockley park then realised I couldn't go no further. So paddled back to lake pier and watched two paddle boarders and a kayaker head out towards the nature reserve opposite. I saw it was then slack water and paddled towards the last bouys then decided I'd got this far I'm going for it so paddled across to the nature reserve. Conditions were spot on too.
Took a slow paddle round to Arne bay then headed back as I knew the wind and swell were going to be picking up (only a little but enough to make the crossing a bit more bumpy) Windy seems to be spot on with forecasting wind and swell, way better than magic seaweed and I'm glad I have a cheap water proof watch on my kayak to help know when things are predicted to turn. Saw loads of mullet breaching in the shallows.
Got back to lake pier and whilst getting my kayak sorted a large speed boat went powering through at full speed where I had just gone across 😲. All the time whilst paddling across I was watching out for boats approaching and that boat owner was showing complete disregard for all speed limits and safety. A member of the kayak club there saw it and couldn't believe it.
Also he was the second kayaker this morning who said they like my kayak 😎. It's great having a sot that gets attention. I finished off with a relaxing float around as I wore my wetsuit and it was getting hot.
Looking forward to heading out to brownsea island when I pick another morning like today.

My dad lives in Annagassan. He kayaks around there too. I've never been but I intend to visit and bring my kayak along one day.

I paddled yesterday. Ringstead to Mupe Bay (firing ranges are closed for the summers hols).
Quickest trip i have ever experienced to get there. The return trip was tough, but i got to use my towline for someone who was struggling. Listened in to a pan pan emergency. Two paddle boards out of Lulworth, offshore wind, no BAs, in the water, usual stuff. Picked up by a rib, taken back in a bit shocked but alive.
Great weather for next week. I'm planning more paddleing.

It's been a holiday week for me but with wind speeds up to 44mph on the Llyn its been great for body boarding but not for kayaking.
However with gentle westerly breeze I had an hour's saunter from Macroes(Abersoch) in my Gumotex to watch how the yachty/water/jetski/ second home set live: and yes I also ask the question why don't paddle boarders and also parents of children in inflatables wear BA's? It only takes a gust or a numbty generated wake to flip out .

I'm sick of idiots venturing out without the very basics of safety gear. I was fishing last night at Hurst castle and 2 lads in an inflatable with no BA's were drifting towards the IOW. I got their attention and signaled for then to get back towards keyhaven as it was getting dark and there was a fair bit of traffic still. A disaster waiting to happen. They just thought it was hilarious and burst out laughing. Don't think I'll bother showing any concern next time.

Yesterday Mrs J and myself went around Caldey Island from and returning to Manorbier in Pembrokeshire. A more substantial day than going from South Beach Tenby, and great cliff scenery. Predictably a magnet for AH's in power boats in the summer hols, but with perfect tidal flows and a nice sea was too good to resist. Why can't they take a wide berth or just slow down a bit when passing?

I also asked it today (albeit on a long, deep, cold and pretty windy + high gusting lake): and, sadly, I think that the Coastguard chopper, several Police boats, ambulance, 3 fire crews, Mountain Rescue team, RNLI inland RIB, 2x marina rescue boats and all other available motorised craft, then, I suspect, specialist divers, also asked it as well :-(

Paddled around 'The Stacks' on Anglesey yesterday from Porth Dafarch to Soldiers Point. Was a bit livelier than the forecast would have suggested with an underlying swell, which added to the excitement.

Yesterday, east of Port Sóller, dressed for immersion (29°C water temp. - 39°C air). Tbf we did a few hours snorkelling to stay cool.
