Re: GPS for sea kayaking
Stay clear of the touch screen ones, not good to use with wet hands.
I have a Garmin eTrex 30x, which is waterproof enough for kayaking use that I put it in my deck hatch without any extra waterproofing.
Battery life is excellent and the mapping on it is reasonably usable despite the small screen. I’ve even put some of Garmins marine charts on it, though they are a bit on the pricey side.

I have been using the Garmin 78sc for the last few years. All the features you could want and holds up well in salt water too.
