I can see the heading but no content in the OP. IS it a technical problem or was the thread opened without content due to human error?

I get the same. (Using Firefox on Linux)

In my case it's the tracking protection. Took me a wee while to figure out what's going on, at first I thought it was adblock stripping something out (even though this site is whitelisted).

Up in the address bar, to the left of the URL, a little shield appears if the tracking protection is active. If I click on that I get a menu, which tells me "Firefox is blocking parts of the page that may track your browsing". Under that is a button that says "Disable protection for this site". When I click the button the FB page appears (and the shield has a line through it). Re-enable the protection and the FB page is gone again.

You can also change the way it behaves more generally (for example to be active in a 'private' window only).

In my case it was the Social Network Tracking in the Avast Online Security plug-in for Firefox that was blocking it. I hadn't installed the plug-in for Chrome so it worked there. I hadn't expected 'tracking' to block the whole Facebook link, but I guess Facebook tracks everything you do implicitly...

Regarding the MCA advice itself, it's very similar to the advice we recently had from an RNLI lecture - good advice, but not necessarily aligned to sea kayaking. As discussed elsewhere, many of us don't use DSC because of the limited battery life, and we nearly all wear Buoyancy Aids rather than other kinds of PFD; I've also switched from pyrotechnic flares to a PLB and a laser flare, which the RNLI speaker hadn't seen before. (I know laser flares are not a recognised distress signal, but I'd prefer to rely on VHF and PLB to raise the alarm, and a laser flare to show my position).
