Time has come for a new battery for my Fastfind. Ebay list a battery replacement service at £75, you send off the deice and it comes back all shiny with a new battery. Has anyone tried this and if so how did it go?

Did exactly that very recently with the club PLB.
A very efficient service 10/10 from me.

With such a critical piece of equipment I think that I would rather trust the manufacturer to replace and check the battery. I'm not saying that this is the case here but the last thing that you want in your plb is a dodgy Chinese recycled battery.

I got Sartech to replace the battery and test the function of my original ACR Aquafix when it was 5 years old. The PLB cost £550 when new so the £150 seemed reasonable. When The ACR was 10 years old I decided to buy a new PLB 1 for £200 rather than replace the ACR battery again for £160.

I sent my 210 to Spares Marine for a new battery and received remarkable service. The PLB was turned around the same day it was received and it was mailed back to me the same day for a total of £79.99 inc. VAT.

Another shout for Spares Marine. They were recommended by a guy at McMurdo. Just had my battery replaced about two weeks ago. Posted the PLB to them on Saturday morning. It was back with me by Wednesday evening. Can’t fault them and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

Thanks Mark and Nick, that was exactly what I was looking for, ta for the other replies as well. It’s going off on Monday and this time I won’t press the test button quite so often although on checking the battery date it needed replacing in Dec 2017 anyways, so I’ve only wasted a month. It may prove to be a very expensive repair though as I followed the link on Nick’s signature and have spent the last couple of hours lusting after strip built sea kayaks, winter project?

Pugwash, yes, I've found strip-building a very pleasant pursuit in the winter. Latest Newsletter here: http://u4h0.r.a.d.sendibm1.com/1ewr4uu4q3f.html

Got it back on a courier this morning, so very good service, it looks nice and shiny and as mentioned above, has got a replace by date of 2024, so well pleased. Downloaded the strip building plans, and I think I may have over estimated my wood working skills!

Pugwash, the download includes the 60 page Build Manual. If you read this a couple of times you may find that each stage becomes less intimidating - or you may fall asleep :)
