Mentoring for L2 coaching
Mostly to help out our club I have gone down the route of getting the UKCC coaching awards, quite a lot of hoops to jump through so I did l1 which was easy then as a Sea kayaker I had to learn about canoes so I could do the L2 stuff, got a 3* open to add to my 4* sea kayak and did a L2 course, I have since been working through the portfolio and have come up against a bit of an issue in that I need to be mentored and observed by a L3 coach whilst delivering 2 of my sessions & get my workbook looked at, I am out on the east coast at Scarborough and from what I can see these are very rare birds indeed, is anyone aware of someone who would be able to help ?
Re: Mentoring for L2 coaching
My reading of the guidance indicates that you only need a level 2 coach as a mentor. To quote:
"Between the training programme and assessment you are encouraged to find a coach mentor. Ideally this role is fulfilled by an experienced British Canoeing (UKCC) Level 2 Coach, or above. A mentor can help by observing delivery of your sessions, providing advice and support through the development phase, and as you work through your assessment portfolio."

You only need an L2 coach as a mentor as suggested above

Don't forget old style BCU Level 3 coaches have loads of experience - and if they have not mentored a new style Level 2 before they might learn a lot from you!
Canoeing - bigger boat, broken paddle, more skill!

Thanks guys, I will check that out tomorrow, I have a couple of guys at L2 locally but I didn't think that was sufficient, Kim is still a fair way off and I don't mind travelling to get someone to go through my portfolio, its just having someone observe my sessions and give feedback.

Re: Mentoring for L2 coaching
I have recently, as a BCU L3 coach, mentored an aspiring UKCC L2. I did learn a lot.
