Patching neoprene

Post by Incayak » Tue Sep 15, 2015 11:04 pm

Any tips please on repairing a neoprene spraydeck? It's starting to rub through at the combing. Thanks!

Wetsuit repair glue works well, use the stuff with an activator, stretch out the spray deck by placing on the kayak (Upside down if required). Glue area and stick on patch of neoprene from an old wetsuit/mousemat or anything else you can find and leave over night.

What Jim said - or Aquasure. Or, send it to a pro. I had a deck repaired by Rubberman some years ago - nice neat job - he used some thin rubber on the inside and the repair added several years of life to the deck.

Repair holes with Black Witch, and use liquid latex to reinforce the bit that's in contact with the coaming.

Worth running a finger (carefully) around the coaming to make sure there are no rough or sharp edges.

Thanks all for the tips on neoprene repair.

Black Witch did the trick - it does a very good job and is easy to use - the tube is now part of my repair kit.

Just so you know, if you didn't, it will "go off" in the tube once it's been opened. It is very irritating to find that the magic gunk one hopes to use for that emergency repair in the middle of a trip has gone solid!

Yep keep it in the freezer for another day. Also works for Sikaflex.
