Re: South West Sea Kayaking Meet 2014?
Hi folks,
This is my first post on this forum, having returned from living in the west of Ireland for over ten years, where I did a lot of sea kayaking on both the North Atlantic and the Shannon Estuary (I started kayaking in 1987).
I would like to join in with your gathering if that is ok. I paddle a seventeen foot Skyros composit boat which is well equipped , with compass, towline, pumps x two etc. I am a non exceptional but sound paddler experienced in rescuing.and group leading in a friendly peer-to-peer fashion, and have been informally coaching for years, both within, and separate to, the West of Ireland Sea Kayak Association.
I paddled at West Pembroke recently with Kevin Cooper from Bristol and I hope to hook up with him and the rest of your group at the coming event.
I'd really appreciate if someone could give me the information needed to get to the meeting campsite and let me know if I can pay when down there, please.
Thanks in advance- Dave (digger) Gorman.:-)

Ref directions, heading south on the A351 hang a right just before the foot of the Corfe Caste ruins. That road takes you through Church Knowle village and then Steeple village. From memory I think the site is on the left (ie south) as you go through Steeple but I'm sure it'll be signposted. No idea on payment etc but I imagine it will be easier if done in advance rather than MarkR having to negotiate dry land paperwork at the event...
Sse you there,
Bards

Ah!..... that camp site. It's great. Stayed at it a couple of year back with the family and it was like a mini-festival in the long field behind the farm. they had a little cafe tent set up with some good sounds in it and they also delivered logs if you wanted a campfire..
Highly recommended.

Re: South West Sea Kayaking Meet 2014?
On the Saturday evening, we have a series of 15 minutes/ 15 pictures presentations - currently including the Channel Islands, British Columbia, St Kilda, the Thames Estuary.
Anyone else who is coming fancy entertaining us with a 15/15? Let me know if so...

I've been too busy paddling to read the forums recently. Is there space for one more?
Re: South West Sea Kayaking Meet 2014?
Would like to join in but unfortunately I have to work this weekend, maybe next year.
Hope you all have good weather and a good time.

Anyone travelling to this meet via Penrith?
If so could you bring a Tiderace sea Kayak down for me in return for beer tokens (or real money if you prefer!)?
Cheers,
Paul

Just spoke to the campsite owner - he suggests we use the first field on the right when you enter, as it'll be pretty empty. Note that you don't need to check in or pay, I'm sorting payment with the site.

Many thanks to all who came along, I enjoyed meeting and paddling with you. Special thanks to those who volunteered to run trips and to those who gave presentations last night, you all did a blinding job.
I am now going to sleep, quite a lot...

The Durlston Head dolphins were seen by hundreds of tourists on Sunday...but as far as I can tell, not one of our c70 paddlers!

Thanks Mark for organizing the event! We had a great time.
Next edition we'll be taking more time off so we won't be pushed to bed for early morning paddles instead of heading to the pub.
My pictures have been posted to facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mzanders/media ... 1409981280 (Saturday grand tour and Sunday morning paddle to Portland Bill).

A belated thanks for setting up this weekend, it was great to get back in the boat after too long a lay off.

Not sure I said, but the event raised £1800 to be divided between the two charities concerned. Will post up reciepts etc at some point, thanks to all concerned.
