Show us your 'Cliff Buildings'

These two buildings below have been built into the cliffs of the south Wales coastline, both date to around the 13th-14 century. I find it incredible and can't help but wonder what inspired people to go to great lengths to build in these exposed places. Are there many more buildings like these around the UK?

I have bugger all to add other than my amazement! Fantastic photos. Reminds me of something out of Dear Esther.
