Where to surf on the Continent?

Post by Liam1909 » Wed Dec 20, 2017 2:56 pm

Looking at getting away for a couple of weeks in summer (end of AUG to start of SEP) to go and surf, we have all done WW before, but are novices when it comes to the surf.

Does anyone have any recommendations of where we could go? Preferably where the waves are generally under 3ft?

any help would be much appreciated

Thanks,

Liam

3 famous places in Britanny :

- West coast of Quiberon, from St-Barbe to Penthièvre
- Grève de St-Michel, at Plestin-les-Grèves
- Le Dossen, at Santec

All crowded in summer. Should be OK in September.

Have a look at http://www.spotsurf.fr or https://www.surf-report.com/surf-info/france/

There's lots of choice along the North Coast of Spain?

If you're surfing novices, you could try places on the Mediteranean, from Greece to Spain. Waves tend to be softer than oceanic ones there. I had been invited on holidays near Alicante in Spain two years ago, and even if I wasn't much of a sea person back then (but hey, one of my uncles rented one of these https://tranio.com/spain/adt/1489456/rent/ and invited me, let's say I became a super outdoorsy person overnight!) I was taught the basics of surfing on waves that are big enough to be thrilling, but not big enough to kill you. These left me the impression of a good spot for beginners.

I would recommend the Quiberon Peninsular (France).
Even in a flat spell good rock-hopping etc. can be found on the exposed side.
Conversely, if conditions are huge, mellow waves wrap round to the sheltered side.

Have a good trip, wherever you end up!
