boots for wetsuit

Post by bondo » Tue Apr 04, 2017 5:58 pm

Just got a "Typhoon Hooded Kona 6/5/4mm". Are there any boots you would recommend to go with it. I do not want water too seep up my legs, while swimming or standing in water, so they should seal nicely around the chins (room in the boat is not a problem).

Cheers

Any semi-decent surf boots should be perfectly fine altho they do vary massively in price.

They should all be glued and blind stitched, like your suit will be, so water ingress should be minimal if you tuck them inside the suit legs.
5mm thick for most use, possibly 6mm if going out in winter a lot.

If you find water IS getting in when swimming, a simple Velcro ankle strap will help but has the down side of not letting any water out if you get any inside the suit.

"semi-decent" :-)

Cheers.

I reckon the boots goes best on the outside, that the suit has this red "fabric" on the inside.

In which case, you are always going to get water into the boots

I use the typhoon surfmaster boots.

These are quite cheap and solid for neoprene boots. I've been able to stand in ankle deep water with a 5/4 wetsuit and been completely dry for around a minute. When it does eventually seep through the neoprene the water has heated up and does no cause any notable discomfort.
