Whitewater kayak that's also good for sea surfing

Post by Mini2 » Sun Oct 14, 2018 8:01 am

Hi I got a Dagger Outlaw I've had for a few years , since getting a pyrahna burn I mainly use the outlaw for sea surfing I find it quiet good well better than the burn for surfing I'm no expert though just for fun,
I hear that a few of the old school play boats are good in the surf,
Any one found any other whitewater kayak that they found quiet good in the surf

Hi yes..anything Riot or Necky for a start, Pyranha S8 or the I3's, Inazone and prozone, wavesport X and XXX, Forplay and some Dagger boats ultrafuge, GT,.. or look for a longish flat hull with surfing rails, like your Outlaw..

I second the Wavesport XXX and most Riot kayaks.

Having owned a Riot Glide & Wavesport XXX I can confirm both can perform well on the surf, including carving on a wave but dont expect full surf kayak performance.
Other kayaks I have used on the surf.
Wavesport Project X48, Jackson Star, Jackson Allstar 2010, Riot Air 45, Liquid Logic Pocket Rocket all perform pretty good on the whitewater but lack the speed to use the green section of the wave.
Pyranha Inazone, quite good on the surf but I found it heavy and uncomfortable.

As Kayak1 has already said anything thats longer, flat hulled and hard edges will usually do well.

Riot Glide is amazing in the surf! And the Foreplay is pretty good too

I have a Riot Trickster and it's surfs better than in river paddles although at 85kg im pushing its capacity on the river.
Incidentally it's for sale if your interested.
