thrusters, does flat foil matter?

Post by kayakr » Thu Aug 03, 2017 7:54 pm

I'm curious how much people think having a flat foil thruster versus a normal foil fin matters in a 3 fin setup. The flat foils seem a lot more fragile and are harder to find. This is for a recreational boater that doesn't get out too frequently because the surf sucks here.

The excellent Surf Kayak Skills website will answer this better than I and is a superb resource for surf kayaking technique

Surf Kayak Skills - Fins

I really recommend it....taught me a lot and made me realise the mistakes I was making (when I thought I was doing fine!)

Cheers,

My own research indicates that the flat foil also is significantly faster than a double foil.

Another good surfing fin guide.

In the USA, True Ames and Rainbow Fin Company were the main longboard format thruster vendors I could find.
